In this blog, I delve into the evolving inspirations behind my art, and various factors that shape my creative process. The landscape is more than just a setting; it embodies a living presence that enriches my artistic experience. Each original piece of art tells a unique story, intricately influenced by diverse elements and moments. My theme, "Where Art and Nature Converge," reflects the connection between nature and the nuances of life that shape both my experiences and the art I create.
In my blog post "Where Nature Meets Art," I touched on how original artwork and its photographic representations differ profoundly. While photographs of original paintings serve as helpful tools for sharing art, they often fail to capture the intricate textures, vibrant colors, and the way light interacts with a original painting. All theses elements come alive when art is exhibited, creating a unique experience. I hoped this photo would help express my 'final thought' in my blog post. ©
I decided to play around with sketching silhouettes of some loons the were outside my cabin while at in Algonquin park at Lake of Two Rivers. The sound of loons echoing across a lake, I don’t think summer would be complete without that familiar sound. I added some selective colour because the markings and colouring of loons are undoubtedly what make them so unique. Medium - pencil with selective colour.
Some of my sketches I did throughout the summer. I gifted several for varying reasons, I have a few more I haven’t photographed yet. I’d like to find some nice frames for the rest and hope to have them for the art show in November. I’ve never framed my sketches before I always kept them in a sketchbook, but then it gets packed away and rarely seen. This year I thought I’d try something different.
Sept 28, I met Rob Stimpson for the second time in my career. This time, for a workshop I was eager to participate in. Rob is an internationally published, award-winning photographer. For me photography is a tool for references, an integral part of my artistic process. He is an artist, and his camera is his tool, just like my brush and pencil. I walked away knowing I had met another great artist. I believe true artists recognize each other when they meet. ( Sept 29 reference photo)
Sept 29, Algonquin Park, Lake of Two Rivers. I arrived before 7 am for the sunrise but the fog was too heavy , it was mid morning by the time it started to clear. I went for breakfast then returned and did a location sketch. I truly enjoy this type of sketching! this is how I start, if I plan on doing numerous in a day or feel like moving on I write points to remember when I paint it or continue with the sketch as seen here. This was 9 am I moved on to do 3 more sketches in different areas.
